Tom Meany > What Is The Suzuki Method?
The Suzuki teaching method was developed by Shin'ichi Suzuki of Japan and
is based on the premise that musical learning should take place in a manner
similar to language acquisition. The Suzuki method seeks to develop musical
sensitivity and memory even before a child learns to read notes. Children as
young as five may begin flute instruction, and the parent attends all lessons and
classes to become the "teacher" at home. Children develop discipline,
endurance, and a love of the arts in a warm, positive atmosphere that will
encourage each child to realize his/her highest musical potential.
Here are two suggested books for all new parents interested in the Suzuki
Method. Both books are by Dr. Shin'ichi Suzuki and are available from
Summy-Birchard Inc..
